The client a global engineering company are looking to add a Buyer to their team working from their Stockton-On-Tees offices.

They are looking to hire a Buyer on a contract basis for an initial 6 month contract, but with a strong potential to extend beyond for the right person.

The role will be working Mon – Fri, 37.5 hours per week and can be based from either their Teesside or Sheffield facilities.

About Client

The client is a leader in provision of metals producers with cutting-edge, custom-tailored plant equipment and services.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Sourcing & Negotiating - undertake effective and timely sourcing processes.  Negotiate with suppliers, utilising appropriate commercial strategies and tactics to deliver optimum results.
  • Estimating - utilising historical data, sourcing process outputs, market and supplier knowledge etc., work with the Estimating team to provide a robust and accurate cost estimate of the specific pre project budget.  In addition, utilising historical data and specific pre project knowledge, estimate the procurement hours required to professionally and effectively execute the project.
  • Planning - develop tailored procurement plans for pre projects and projects, identifying the viability, or otherwise, of the project timescale.  Identify internal (e.g. engineering drawing availability) and external (e.g. supplier lead times) bottlenecks to enable mitigations / solutions to be identified for management decision.
  • Total Cost of Ownership - analyse and assess supply options on the basis of cost, quality, delivery and commercial risk and make procurement recommendations / decisions accordingly.
  • Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) - manage major supplier relationships to ensure PTUK benefits from supplier knowledge, ideas and innovations.
  • Stakeholder Management - proactively engage all necessary stakeholders (internal and external) to ensure that have timely SCM information, in a clear and assessable format, to effectively execute projects.
  • Market Analysis - undertake market analysis to identify trends, new sources of supply, opportunities, risks, etc. and use foresight to develop appropriate strategies which deliver a competitive advantage to our client
  • Global SCM - engage with SCM colleagues globally to ensure that our client inputs into and benefits from global category management.  Ensure pre project and project procurement strategies and contracts fully leverage our clients global buying power and its market / supplier knowledge and relationships.
Required Knowledge and Competencies

  • Several years of procurement experience, with a proven track record of delivery.
  • Tendering - experience in undertaking project tendering processes on a structured, transparent and managed basis.
  • Contract & Legal Knowledge - ability to negotiate contractual terms and conditions with suppliers to minimise commercial risk.
  • Negotiating - experience of undertaking a range of commercial negotiations with suppliers and delivering results.
  • Planning & Organising - demonstrate a structured, organised and methodical way of working, to be able to develop and implement project procurement plans.
  • Decision Making & Judgement - be prepared to make fast paced professional judgements, sometimes on the basis of imperfect information.
  • Attention to Detail - a meticulous attention to detail is required - errors in bid preparation and project execution cost money.
  • Communication - a clear and concise (written and verbal) communicator who can distil their work into the key messages for management.
  • IT & Procurement Technology - a proficient user of all Microsoft Office packages.  Experience of SAP MRP system is highly desirable.
Educational or Professional Requirements

  • Business related qualifications an advantage.  CIPS preferred but not essential
  • Must be willing to travel between Stockton and Sheffield offices at short notice
  • Full and valid UK driving license required.
