Our valued client, a large oil and gas operator has the need for an Emergency Management Engineer in Calgary, AB. This is a one-year contract role with the possibility for extension.
 
The Emergency Management Engineer provides support to Conventional Thermal Production Operations with the objective to identify, analyze potential hazards and evaluate the emergency management risks associated with the hazards.
 
 
SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
  • Develop clear goals, objectives and meet Regulatory scheduled Emergency Response Plan dates.
  • Proficiency in the Emergency Planning Zone (EPZ) determination for wells, Pipelines and facilities using the ERCBH2S software Model
  • Gather wells, pipelines and facilities data throughout different sources (IHS, Abadata, etc)
  • Analyze the gathering system flow connectivity, considering the emergency shut down valves (ESD, check valves) for sour assets.
  • Conducted gas to liquid ratio analysis for oil effluent pipelines EPZ calculation.
  • Calculate the expected H2S release volume for land use setback purpose for pipelines, wells and facilities.
  • Calculate thermal radiation EPZs using plume dispersion modeling “ALOHA”
  • Work with production, facility and pipelines team to mitigate hazard’s risk and assist in determining pipelines specs and ESD valve’s location for new projects based on setback requirements
  • Work with exploitation Eng. to assess the risk and determine the EPZ for comingled and injection wells (Acid and gas injection and sour water injection)
  • Calculate thermal radiation EPZs using plume dispersion modeling “ALOHA”
  • Prepare audit document as required and maintain a professional communication with Regulatory bodies (AER/OGC/CEPA/CER)
  • Assist with developing or improving the Emergency Management procedures / standards / policies.
 
 
QUALIFICATIONS
 
EDUCATION, TRAINING, CERTIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering - registered as Professional Engineer in Alberta
  • Petroleum Engineering Technologist
 
EXPERIENCE
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in the oil and gas industry
  • Experience with Emergency Management Engineering is an asset.

  • Proficiency in making sound technical decisions.
  • A working understanding and experience in Emergency Management and Response Planning.
  • In-depth knowledge of Government Regulatory requirements AER -D 56, D71), (OGC - Emergency Management Regulation), CEPA- E2 Regulations and (CER-OPR, Onshore Pipeline Regulations) and CSAZ246.2
  • Skilled in the use of Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, IHS Accumap.
