The valued client, a large Oil & Energy company are seeking an experienced Welding Engineering to join their team in Calgary, AB on a long-term contract basis.
About the role:
• Provide welding engineering support to a wide variety of new construction and maintenance projects
including pipelines, facilities and shop fabrications
• Develop welding procedure specifications (WPS) as required. Select welding procedure specifications for project use
• Support existing technical specifications related to welding
• Support qualification and auditing of new and existing welding contractors and suppliers
• Review and approve third-party welding procedure specifications and welding-related technical specifications to ensure that supplementary requirements are applied
• Provide upfront welding engineering support to projects through document reviews and pre-production meetings
• Issue welding-related technical documentation and memos to projects as required
• Support RFI and NCR processes to ensure contractor, supplier and manufacturers compliance with requirements
• Provide troubleshooting support during execution of new construction and maintenance projects
• Collaborate with internal team members, welding contractors and suppliers to find practical
solutions to technical challenges and to identify opportunities to improve technical requirements and processes
• Conduct and support welding-related engineering assessments and engineering critical assessments
• Support the documentation and consistent application of requirements
• Support failure analysis, issue investigations and root cause analysis as required
• Experienced in the application of welding requirements according to CSA Z662 and ASME IX
• A strong background of materials properties, effects of fabrication methods on material properties,
fracture mechanics analysis on fracture initiation and propagation control
• Hands-on trouble shooting skills is an asset
• Experience with mechanized welding procedures for mainline welding and fabrication welding
• Experience with other design and welding standards (e.g. ASME B31.3, ASME VIII, CSA B51, CSA W59, CSA Z662)
• Field experience with construction practices to prevent problems such as hydrogen-induced cracking
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Welding Engineering, Metallurgical/Materials or Mechanical Engineering, preferably an AWS, IWE or CWB certified welding engineer
• Registered Professional Engineer (P. Eng) with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) is required
• Minimum of 10 – 15 years of progressive experience in a welding engineering role, preferably related to gas pipeline/facility construction and design
