The Electrical Protection Engineer will manage and undertake electrical engineering, required for successful completion of the KTL Switchgear Upgrade (KSU) Project.  The Electrical Engineer provides technical input to design and procurement technical activities. This position requires a high level of electrical protection systems experience, from 35kV to LV. The ability to model and simulate using ETAP is essential, as is the ability to read and interpret Electrical deliverables. The Electrical Protection Engineer provides technical input to design and procurement technical activities for Automation systems, in alignment with Lead Automation Engineer.  This position is not responsible for originating electrical engineering deliverables but is responsible for checking Engineering Contractors’ technical accuracy of design details, independently or with the assistance of the Senior or Lead Electrical Engineer.
Position responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Engineering / Procurement Phase
•    Clearly engage and support the Electrical work scope, schedule and cost for the project and communicate to the KSU Project Team and Engineering Contractor.
•    Ensure all project information related to Design, Procurement and Construction is accurate and timely, meets relevant standards and specifications, and is made available to the project team in line with the required schedule. 
•    Review, consolidate, and approve design documents, assigned by the Senior or Lead Electrical Engineer – including Procurement items issued by Engineering contractors and Manufacturers.
•    Ensure plant personnel provide input to the design at each stage of the project via KSU Base Business Interface position.
•    Work closely with engineering contractors’ engineers to ensure Company information is provided in a timely manner to meet project schedule and priorities.
•    Monitor Engineering Contractors’ progress and work quality.
•    Participate with Engineering Contractor and Suppliers in measurement of progress on deliverables.
•    Develop or promote schedule saving initiatives.
•    Communicate with Engineering contractor company’s technical expectations, and ensure Contractors understands project requirements and Company specifications.
•    Actively support and participate in Project Incident and Injury Free (IIF) philosophy.
•    Ensure Key Stakeholders (Plant operations, Maintenance, Reliability, Engineering, Central Engineering) are effectively engaged in all phases of Project Development, specific to Electrical. 
•    Establish and maintain positive relationships with company Partners and RoK design institutes to maximize effective Kazakhstani Goods & Services levels (local content).
•    Ensure engineering drawings and design packages are issued by the engineering contractor, as per the project plans to support subcontracting and construction needs. 
•    Ensure that design packages are transmitted by the Engineering Contractor to enable timely planning, contracting, and efficient field execution. 
•    Implement procedures to ensure engineering standards and practices are followed on all project work. 
•    Provide engineering assistance to project planners on questions, related to electrical materials, scope definition, and field coordination. 
•    Gather and apply lessons learned, best practices, and VIPs.  
•    Assist with Project Peer Review/Assists. 
•    Ensure KSU designs support Environmental Stewardship intents.
Construction / Post Construction Phases
•    Actively and visibly support KSU IIF philosophy.
•    Monitor all extra work requests, and flag to Lead Electrical Engineer areas of growth.
•    Ensure engineering support for Field Construction Personnel.
•    Assist Lead Electrical Engineer, as required.
•    Ensure proper project closeout, as per company guidelines.
•    Ensure all Engineering Contractor’s technical deliverables are completed, as required, and handed over in a timely manner.
•    Participate in project look-back and share lessons learned.
•    Ensure optimized use of owner and contractor’s resources, during field execution phase.
•    Interface with Construction Manger to ensure quality of work for operability, maintainability, and satisfaction of technical objectives of Project. 
•    Produce punch list of items to be corrected on CAPEX work, prior to transfer of facilities for commissioning.
