This is an exciting opportunity to work for a multi award-winning civil contractor that delivers major essential infrastructure across Australia, and to contribute to landmark projects working alongside some of the industry’s best.

The primary objective of this position is to coordinate on site construction engineering functions for allocated disciplines to achieve project objectives and provide sufficient support for construction activities.

The Role:
The following key accountabilities relate to this position:
  1. Lead the safety culture with your team and drive compliance through all works. Undertake all HSEQ responsibilities as identified for your role in the Project’s Management Plans and associated documents.
  2. Develop a detailed knowledge of and apply the relevant management plans and associated procedures, including but limited to Project Safety Plan (PSP), Environmental Management Plan (EMP), Project Quality Plan (PQP), and Construction Management Plan (CMP), Workplace Relations Management plan (WRMP).
  3. Identify future complex high-risk activities and participate in the development and review of risk assessments, SWMS’s, THRC’s (complete internal HIRAC training).
  4. Develop a thorough understanding of Client specifications and standards to enable timely progression of Quality system requirements including ITPs, Lot Closure, and NCRs.
  5. Develop a working knowledge of the Head Contract requirements, with the ability to overview the progress claim, negotiate variation claims, and identify contractual risks and opportunities.
  6. Manage the activities of the team, assign workloads and provide technical and administrative guidance to project staff to ensure objectives are effectively and economically achieved.
  7. Monitor and coordinate all phases of project progress including workforce, ensuring equipment, facilities and services meet specified requirements.
  8. Review scope of work and allocate effective work breakdown for procurement packages.
  9. Develop procurement schedule and negotiate best value for each package in line with program requirements.
  10. Contribute to timely and profitable project completion including recording complete work, costs incurred, materials used and retain progress drawings.
  11. Develop and drive productivity on site. Ensure that every activity is challenged to perform better and track this against the tender estimate. Intervene and be accountable for improving areas that are underperforming.
  12. Monitor subcontractor performance to ensure fulfilment of contractual obligations (commercial, safety, environment, quality, HR, etc.) and review validity of subcontractor claims within commercial framework.
  13. Monitor quality and quantities of incoming equipment and material, check working drawings, construction and specifications against site plans and conditions and arrange corrections or modifications where necessary.
  14. Participate in planning future requirements including machine tools, ancillary equipment, major plant and labour. Direct site surveys and preparatory work prior to construction.
  15. Own productivity management of works under your direct control and report regularly to the Project Manager.
  16. Develop short and medium-term programs, including resource balancing, to ensure contractual program targets are being met. Identify potential program opportunities and/or implement corrective actions if required.
  17. Identify potential risks and opportunities (safety, quality, environmental, financial, commercial, industrial, reputational, program) and update the R&O Register.
  18. Develop a working knowledge of applicable insurance policies and capture necessary records in support of claims.
  19. Have a working knowledge of applicable legislation (TPA, industrial instruments, BIFSOPA, etc.) and maintain confidentiality as it applies to sensitive information.
  20. Effectively adapt leadership style to effectively influence different situational and individual capability requirements.
  21. Proactively engage in the performance management and professional development of subordinates.
  22. Complete the Engineer Competency Matrix in the Learning Management System (LMS) every six (6) months (at a minimum), for review and approval by your Manager, to meet SWC capability and Authorized Engineer Organization (AEO) status requirements
  23. Accurately approve or amend where required, the Competency Matrix ratings of subordinate Undergraduate, Graduate and Site Engineers in line with SWC capability and AEO status requirements at least every six (6) months.
  24. Understand, comply and remain current with all Seymour Whyte policies, procedures and compliance training as relevant to your role.
  25. Maintain up to date knowledge and application of, legislation, industry standards and technological innovations as relevant to your role.
About You:
Qualifications
  1. Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) or its equivalent.
  2. Significant experience delivering civil infrastructure construction projects for State authorities.
  3. Intermediate to advanced computer literacy (e.g. Microsoft Suite, Viewpoint, etc.).
  4. Working knowledge of Quality procedures, WHS, Environmental and HR/ IR procedures.
  5. Ability to produce Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS) and ITP’s for all trades.
  6. Demonstrated ability to prepare contractual claims and variations.
  7. Detailed knowledge of head and subcontract agreements.
  8. Ability to develop, implement and manage budgets and forecasts.
