Position Summary
The VP PowerFLX Engineering will lead the engineering design team for the PowerFLX group.  They will be responsible for all aspects of the design of the power plant from civil design/permitting through connection to the utility line with functional relay testing and all aspects in between.
 
The chosen candidate will Initially provide third party engineering oversight and expertise for the multi-disciplined engineering team responsible for the development and/or system integration of control, electrical, mechanical, structural and process designs for power generating facilities and systems. 
The VP PowerFLX Engineering will then lead the transition from reliance on third party management to building and managing a fully functional in-house engineering team.
  • Building the in-house team includes, but is not limited to:
    • Adapting quality standards from manufacturing engineering to site/construction engineering.
    • Identifying licensing requirements and a plan to obtain licenses in other jurisdictions.
    • Analyzing current resources and determining a plan to fill gaps for a complete in-house team.
    • Review of current code database and plan to ensure that all aspects of design keep up with any code modifications.
    • Creation of complete design standards that the team will use in the design and can be shared internally and externally.
Position Responsibilities
  • Evaluate existing mechanical/electrical equipment fitness for service applications on projects. 
  • Research, recommend, and implement new technologies to maintain company’s competitive advantage in the market.
  • Support the engineering continuous improvement program by recommending and implementing best practices, data bases and tools. 
  • Provide technical direction and training to engineering team. 
  • Plans / analyzes various projects, develops schedules and product parameters, sets procedures to accomplish objectives, and is directly involved with complex construction issues, finance, administration, forecasting, and sales & marketing plans.
  • Directs activities of the Engineering Group concerned with technical developments, scheduling, resolving engineering design, testing problems and procedures.
  • Directs integration of technical requirements, conceptual designs, customer needs and market place success factors.
  • Develop and maintain engineering budgets in accordance with divisional financial objectives. Plan and implement cost, quality and productivity improvements via key engineering initiatives.
  • Provides product and project development support and manages several technology design & development initiatives simultaneously.
  • Keep current on technologies that will allow the company to maintain its world class engineering capabilities.
  • To prepare, revise and follow-up of the technical reports, technical information for quotations, and provide engineering assistance to the commercial sales department.
  • Recommends, evaluates, and approves final design changes, drawing releases, and product specifications.
  • Facilitates optimum plant configuration based on client contractual requirements for both PG and OG&C facilities.
  • Responsible for establishing and achievement KPIs for the engineering team.
 
Required Qualifications
  • Candidates must have a BS Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Materials or Chemical Engineering, a PE license and /or a Master’s Degree in Business or Engineering strongly preferred.
  • Candidate should have at least 10 years working in a design capacity and have experience managing an engineering group. 
  • US work authorization is a precondition of employment. The company will not consider candidates who require sponsorship for a work-authorized visa.
  • Successful candidate will need to satisfactorily complete pre-employment drug screen and background check
Desired Qualifications
  • The ideal candidate should have at least 15 to 20 years of EPC/Turnkey power plant construction experience
  • Solid engineering background within the Energy (power plant) market preferably mechanical/electrical experience.  Structural, chemical/process is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to source, recruit, grow, and retain talent through effective and proactive management of performance, talent review, and employee development tools and processes.
  • Proven success with managing multiple job assignments utilizing project management skills.
  • The candidate must have a strong sense of urgency to bring closure and products to market, must also enjoy the technical aspects of product design, as well as the communication / interaction with operations, field service, marketing, management and the customer.
  • Must have strong technical competence and working knowledge and/or experience with CAD. Proficient in the use of various MS Office programs, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.  Experience with PrimaVera scheduler (or similar) and complex estimating tools is a plus.
