Job Purpose & Scope:
· The role is a 12 - 24 months contract position and will be accountable for Process Controls Engineering aspects of Project delivery for a Refinery and Chemical Plant.
· The role is part of a Discipline Engineering Team and will primarily interface with the following groups: Project Engineering, Project Development, Maintenance, Construction, Turnaround, Production, Engineering and Technology.
· Hybrid position - combination of remote working (work from home) and at plant location (Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta).
Duties & Responsibilities:
· Technical Assurance of deliverables within the Process Controls engineering scope of work. Ensure consistency of Process Controls design across all projects.
· Support EPC detailed design in the following areas: Process Control strategy design, Process Control documentation such as control narratives, schemes, P&IDs etc and ensure consistency across all projects.
· Provide guidance to EPC on preparation of detailed Process Controls specifications.
· Review and/or approve vendors' Process Control scheme and procedures
· Consistently interface with other Process Controls and Automation sub disciplines to resolve mutual technical and quality issues on bordering on Process Controls
· Provide guidance for current Process Controls corporate and industry standards including site procedures, applicable technical position statements and company best practices e.g. IEC, ISA etc
· Work closely with the plant's maintenance group to ensure that project execution meets all applicable company Process Controls standards and strive to achieve "Goal Zero".
· Managing technical interface issues between disciplines and Project stakeholders.
· Ensuring the employment of best practice work processes, design tools and fit for purpose technologies.
· Review and approve exceptions for Company's approved suppliers and manufacturer
· Participation in process design reviews, HAZOP studies and Model Reviews
· Support the application of Human Factors, Operability and Maintainability standards.
· Process Controls support for Construction, commissioning and startup for Projects
· Facilitating knowledge sharing between executing projects, and the capture and implementation of lessons learned.
· Network with Process Controls Engineer within Company and professional organizations to learn from others and assist in development of improved internal procedures and practices.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience:
· BSc in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, Process Controls Engineering or any other relevant degree with sound knowledge and experience in Process Controls Engineering.
· 10+ years' work experience as a Process Controls Engineer supporting a Refinery, Upgrader and/or Chemical Plant - with strong experience with Foxboro and Honeywell systems
· APEGA registered with Professional Engineering (P.Eng.) designation
