The client a Global Oil and Gas Operator in Perth are currently seeking an Offshore Structures Engineer / Naval Architect to join them for a 12-month contract. This contractor will work onshore most of the time and will only be travelling to offshore/internationally twice in a year for almost 2 weeks each time.

Reporting to the Lead Offshore Structures Engineer, the Offshore Structures Engineer/ Naval Architect will provide strong, shore based, Offshore Structures (fixed platform, topsides) and Naval Architecture (hull structure) technical support to various projects and on occasion new projects or developments.
The role will be 2nd level (i.e., onshore supporting offshore) Hull structure, topsides structure and jacket structure focused engineering and operations & maintenance support, developing a close working relationship with onshore and offshore, Maintenance and Operations teams. You will also liaise with other discipline engineering teams located within the Integrated Engineering Team.

The role will be based in Perth however you may be required to travel offshore, nationally, and internationally periodically.

Responsibilities

As a member of the Offshore Structures team, you will contribute to all engineering aspects within the Civil Structures Offshore (CSO) discipline plan and provide high quality technical advice related to the ongoing structural integrity management for both operating facilities that deliver high integrity and reliability outcomes.
The Offshore Structures Engineer will be responsible for the following:
  • Act as the Offshore Structures Subject Matter Expert (SME) assessing structural integrity aspects of activities that impact topsides, hull and jacket structures to ensure that compliance to the Safety Case and Discipline Competency Assurance Framework (DCAF).
  • Handle Classification Society matters and provide technical advice and recommendations to the Classification Society (Lloyds Register) focal.
  • Improve and manage existing equipment RBI plans, care strategies and maintenance practices in line with Safety Case, Class Rules, marine industry standards and guidelines
  • Participate in the Manage Threats and Opportunities (MTO) realisation process as well as brownfield project reviews to identify key hull, topsides, and jacket structure technical risks, and propose resolution.
  • Work within the interface between the Integrated Engineering, Maintenance, Production Operations and Maritime Operations teams along with other engineering disciplines and functions in the national and Global organization.
  • Scope, award and manage support from specialist contractors when required.
  • Liaise with external contractors for the delivery of scopes of work for both on site execution and specialist engineering.
  • Build relationships with the Global CSO and Maritime discipline communities drawing from their knowledge and then providing input into engineering solutions.
To Be Considered
  • Must be a professional bachelor’s degree qualified engineer with education in a relevant engineering discipline (eg Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering, Maritime Engineering or Civil Structural Engineering).
  • Must have 5+ years Floating Production System and Fixed Platform (FLNG, FPSO, FSO, Jacket) in either an onshore office or offshore operating environment, preferably in a role as an onshore structural support engineer or onshore naval architect.
  • Demonstrate skilled knowledge at developing and managing a Risk Based Inspection (RBI) program for offshore structures. The candidate will be able to support short-, medium- and long-term integrity and reliability goals and assure technical integrity.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge and understanding of design and structural evaluation of offshore operating facilities to a range of applicable of codes and standards.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of in-situ structural repair methodologies for offshore operating facilities.
  • Demonstrate operational leadership to the Integrated Engineering, Asset Maintenance and Maritime Operations community with respect to leadership attributes.
  • Must have good communication, organisation, and people management skills.
